History
The society was registered in 1997 as a one of the first organizations that promotes the development of the offshore wind energy. Within the period of 1997-2011 the society was run under the name Polish Wind Energy Society (PWES).
From 2006 the organization has been concentrating its activity exclusively on the promotion of the development of the offshore wind energy in Poland taking part in international projects as well as organizing conferences and seminars. At the same time it has been cooperating with the government administration and supported works that concentrate on legal solutions that facilitate implementation of the offshore wind energy projects in Poland.
In 2011, during the general assembly of the PWES’s members, a decision was made to adjust the name of the organization to the actual profile of its activity and it was changed into Polish Offshore Wind Energy Society (POWES). The mentioned change had been previously consulted with the partner organizations and positively opinioned by the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA).
